- What is asbestos?
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral and has been manufactured to produce certain products. A large amount of asbestos has been used in building materials, reasons being that asbestos has high levels of corrosion and heat resistant properties.
The main types of asbestos are chrysotile (white), amosite (brown) and crocidolite (blue).
- What dangers does asbestos exposure have?
Asbestos is dangerous because it splits into very fine dust particles, which can be easily inhaled. The inhalation of asbestos fibres can cause serious diseases of your internal organs, in particular the lungs. Symptoms of these diseases may not occur for many years.
- How can AUK help with your asbestos problem?
AUK offers a full tailored package for the removal and disposal of this hazardous mineral, to ensure all our clients are compliant with the many regulations currently in force.
AUK will initially carry out an asbestos survey and gather some samples to identify whether asbestos is present in certain materials. If asbestos is present, our survey will indicate the location, condition and extent of all asbestos containing materials (ACMs).
We take a very professional approach to the removal and disposal of asbestos and strive in making sure minimal disruption is a top priority. Our asbestos survey and analysis will allow us to communicate effectively and work closely with each client to provide full satisfaction throughout the whole project. All our asbestos projects are managed and taken out within industry legislation, approved codes of practice and within HSE guidelines.
- Changes to the law…
The control of asbestos regulations 2006 came into force on 13th November 2006 (asbestos regulations – SI2006/2739).
These regulations bring together the three previous sets of regulations, covering the prohibition of asbestos, the control of asbestos at work and asbestos licensing.
The asbestos regulations also include the ‘DUTY TO MANAGE ASBESTOS’ in non-domestic premises.
Currently there is no law that requires homeowners to manage asbestos in their homes. But for your own safety and to eliminate any dangers, give AUK a call to ensure correct management in removing your asbestos problem.
